| What makes a good website. |
| There are many ways to create a website, but there are also specific guidelines that need to be followed to assure a pleasant experience for your visitors. The information below gives a slight rundown of what a website should involve and what to expect from us when we design a website for you. |
| The Do's and Don'ts of website design. |
Structure: Structure is a key part of
keeping order within your website. A good way to have this ready, even before you start, is to sketch out a sitemap. Start with the index page and draw lines to where you want each link to go. This will give you a visual of where you want each link to end up and will also give you a better understanding of how large the end product will be. |
Navigation: Navigation is one of the key parts in creating a website. Without good navigation, a visitor may become lost in the heap of information your website provides. There are many ways to have good navigation for your site and all are fairly simple to create. A simple bar somewhere near the top is the most common used for websites that are below average in size. For larger websites, with lots of information, a drop down menu is ideal. |
Organization: Keep it organized. This goes along with the structure and navigation of your website. Keep the scrolling factor of your website to a minimum. There have been many studies online that show most users are irritated by having to scroll down more than they have to. Two to three page lengths on a 1024 x 768 resolution is perfect for any site and incorporating anchor tags for those longer pages is a wonderful way to get the organization going. |
Information: Keep your website informative! Whatever it is you are trying to reach out to your visitors, make it known. If you are selling a product, explain the product to the best of your ability. If you are creating a website for others to download software, make sure each download has a thorough description of what it is. The World Wide Web was created for informational purposes. Keep this in mind whenever you are adding text to your website. |
